Familiars
A book review by Isaac Stone Dearie
We all love our pets, right? Our furry, feathered, scaly, or tongued companions are always by our side, helping us through tough times and giving us a laugh every now and then. They're so lovable! It's almost magical. But what if I told you they are magical. In what world you are asking. In the world of Vastia, the setting of Familiars, of course! They aid and accompany their wizard loyals, exploring and inventing with them. In all worlds, the masters are the humans, so what would happen if the masters disappeared? That's the exact plot of Familiars.
A street cat named Aldwyn lives his life constantly on the run, but the tables seem to turn when he stumbles into a magical pet shop, where a young wizard named Jack selects him to be his familiar. At the start of his new life, Aldwyn meets with two other familiars, the know-it-all blue jay, Skylar and the clumsy tree frog, Gilbert. But when Jack and two other wizards get captured by a mysterious evil, it's up to Aldwyn's street smarts and Skylar and Gilbert's abilities and a hint of magic to save the day.
The 2010 novel by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson, connects animal lovers to Harry Potter. It keeps readers intrigued and interested with suspense, tension, action, and adventure around every corner. You will definitely not be disappointed with this impeccable book. And one thing's for certain- you will never see your pet the same way, and you'll be trying to get a wizard hat on your cat for weeks.
