Mr. Bruder Leaving Hilltop for New Job
By Brandon Alvarado
I have some sad news to report. Mr. Bruder is leaving Hilltop. His last day here as a classroom teacher is Friday, May 13th.
He is not leaving because we have made him so annoyed but because he has been requested for a new job at the new Thinkbitlab that is in construction at the Chula Vista Public Library Civic Center Branch. The lab is a collaberation venture between the Chula Vista Elementary School District, Qualcomm, and the Chula Vista Public Library. The lab will open in July 2016. He is leaving Hilltop early because he is going to training and needs to get ready for this new job.
"While I'm very excited about the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and families across our district and community, it is very difficult to leave Hilltop. This has been my home for the past 13 years," said Mr. Bruder
He started teaching at Hilltop at the age of 21. First, he was a DASH after school program leader. Next, he was a student teacher and then he became a regular classroom teacher. He has taught 4th,5th, and 6th grades.
One day in his 4th grade class, he showed us a program called code.org. Then the school allowed him to teach a coding class. We have had fundraisers to support this after school program. We even had a science festival where we showed everyone what we do. Lots of students at Hilltop have benefited from this program and we love playing with the robots and coding. Now we are not sure if there is going be a coding class next year. But I sure hope it continues.
Make sure if you see Mr. Bruder at the Civic Center branch to tell him "hi". That’s all for now. But remember, he is not gone yet so make sure to make him laugh and to bug him like we always do. I think Mr. Bruder will earn more more money at his new job and will be able to go to Starbucks more often and drink his favorite latte.
