Mrs. Lynn Greenstein Retiring
By Alyssa Hancock and Nicole Hughes
"I love loving the kids," says kindergarten teacher Mrs. Lynn Greenstein. When she was a teenager, she was fond of babysitting and wanted a career involving children. When in college, she volunteered in a second grade classroom and knew she wanted to be a teacher. She made the right choice because she has been an amazing teacher for 31 years and even inspired her daughter to become a teacher as well. She also has a soft spot for the book "People of the Book" and the movie "The Sound of Music".
Taking her class on a tour of the campus to find the gingerbread man is one of the many memories that she has enjoyed each year. Also, stone soup brings back joyous memories about how she would read the book to the kids and then they would all make stone soup together. Her most favorite moment of every year is on the first day of school when she takes kinder bear out of his "cave" that he was in all summer.
When Mrs. Greenstein worked with Mrs. Johnson (a retired Hilltop teacher), she always loved teaching the subject of winter because they would have a snow day with the students. The children would bring in different shapes and colors of ice cubes to make a sculpture and watch them melt throughout the day.
Something that she loves about teaching is when she gets to hear a child read fluently for the very first time. It makes her happy to be able to help someone become stronger. One of the best things that she has seen this year is the students working together to learn new things. Although you may think Mrs. Greenstein is flawless, she still struggles to meet every students' needs with the many children she has in her class.
There are still some things that Mrs. Greenstein would like to learn and one of them is how to make creative and exotic flower arrangements for herself, her family, and her friends. Furthermore, cooking is a passion of hers. She loves to cook for her family and come up with new recipes for them. The Food Network is a big help in this. She also loves to spend time with her grandkids whenever she can. She loves to see them grow and learn.
Though you may think that Mrs. Greenstein was born to teach kindergarten, she never knew she would. The first year she became a teacher, she was placed in a kindergarten class and has loved it ever since.
The wonderful teacher we will all miss says, "I think of Hilltop Drive Elementary as my home away from home. I've grown to love some many families and it's going to be hard to say goodbye to being in room 107."
