ANNUAL JUMP FOR HEART EVENT TAKES PLACE AT HILLTOP by Sofia Rossoff and Jocelyn Flores
All students from every grade and class at Hilltop Elementary got together and jumped rope on the blacktop to raise awareness and money for the fight against heart disease on Thursday, February 11th. Our school has had this program for more than 12 years and The American Heart Association has provided us with this crucial program that has greatly impacted the fight against heart disease.
Most students enjoyed the program. Although, $4000 was the goal, only $2000 was raised. We didn't get to see Mr.Alcos cut off his ponytail , but kids still had a good time. "It was pretty great," said Sixth grader Izabel Cordova. There was a good D.J., Mr. Jason Matias, a parent of one of our third graders. It was like a huge dance party with jump ropes and songs playing like "Stitches" by Shawn Mendes, "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, "Cheerleader" by Omi, "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean" by Justin Bieber. The event eventually turned into a huge conga line that consisted of about one third of the school.
We decided to go to an "official" known as our school's wonderful Mr.Kircher (upper grade special day class teacher and coordinator of the event) to get some good info for you. When asked what his opinion on the subject was, Mr.Kircher said, "I think that it is a great cause and I think it can make our society greater. I think it can change lives." Mr.Kircher also added that his favorite thing about Jump for Heart is that everyone has fun and it is for a good cause.
Now third graders, be proud of the person who represented you when she was interviewed. Her name is Isabella Marie Matias. When asked how it could help, her response was, "It's helping because it helps kids be more healthy. Think of it as something where people have fun. My favorite part is when we get to dance".
Overall, kids loved and enjoyed Jump Rope For Heart and most people thought it was a great idea and had a wonderful time.
