Is Beauty Still Beauty?

When you think of beauty, what comes to mind? Your crush? A celebrity? Yourself? The definition of beauty has changed a lot over the years. So ask yourself right now. What is beauty?
"Beauty is how people see other people," Malachi Perez stated. Malachi is a sixth grader in Ms. Cunningham's class. "In the old days only, famous people and white women could be pronounced as pretty, but now almost anyone can be pretty in their own ways."
In today's world, people are equally critical about the status of beauty. Some say that only certain people (slim or skinny or well-rounded and muscular people) can be attractive. Others say that the range of who is beautiful is wider and that beauty is more skin deep than outside looks.
"Beauty in the eye of the beholder is what creates beauty," according to Deneve Villageas. She is also a sixth grader at Hilltop Elementary. Although that's what society needs to understand, being attractive has it's perks. "Certain movie actors and celebrities, who are deemed pretty or hard to look away kind of people usually get paid more, so movies can have a steady flow of cash."
Now more than ever, it seems to me that looks and beauty can give you things that people who are less beautiful can't get. For instance, a better looking, well-groomed man who is applying for a job may have a better chance of getting a job than the other, less handsome man.
"More and more people are depending on their looks than education and schooling," said Luke Vargas, another 6th grader at HILLTOP.
In the coming years, things like this may become more evident in younger people in our society. If this happens, many people of great character will be losing out.
When you think about success, most people that you think about aren't necessarily that attractive on the outside, but are beautiful on the inside. There are extremely successful people in the world that don't fit in with the standards of beauty. Stephen Hawkings was diagnosed with amyotrophic laterals sclerosis that put him under paralysis, yet he still became very successful. That just goes to show that beauty isn't the answer to everything.
All in all, although being attractive may influence what other people think but only you can put a number on yourself. So what if people don't think you comply with the "criteria"? Who cares? Knowing who you are and knowing what you want to be is all that matters in life. Only you can choose the path you want. Don't try to forcefully change it or yourself. Beauty is just a status that is in the eye of the beholder. Now ask yourself again. What is beauty?
