, LONG TIME HILLTOP TEACHER JEAN ROGERS RETIRES
Story by Isaac Dearie
She's one substitute everyone liked. Her gentle tone threw even the potential trouble maker off. The one who loves to read, watch movies and eat food. Yes, everyone I'm talking about the beloved teacher, Mrs. Jean Rogers. That is what this story is going to be about.
On a nice cool and breezy Thursday, I had a chance to interview the teacher, who currently ended a day with Mr. Kircher's class. That day was her final day as a substitute as she went into her retirement.
"Well, what I really want to do for my retirement is sleep in... a lot," said Mrs. Rogers. When I asked her curiously about what she was going to do she said, "Sooner or later, I'll come over to the school and play some basketball with all you young people."
It turns out that Mrs. Rogers really likes to be outside and play sports. You need a lot of energy to play sports and that is exactly what she has. No wonder so many people like her! In all she has taught forty-five years, most of it as a regular classroom teacher. The least you can say about her is that she is very experienced.
Well, as I bid my good-bye and said, "Have a nice day Mrs. Rogers," I walked right out of the room with a lot of information about the loved, energetic, smart, and beloved person I had interviewed. I thought to myself, "Wow, she is one of the best people I know."
