Hilltop Knights Soccer Team Advances to the Championship Game
It was a cool, cloudy and breezy Thursday afternoon as the Hilltop Knights took to the field for their warm ups on Thursday, May 10th. The Knights hosted the semi-final round of the district soccer league against the Rice Roadrunners. Going into the game, both teams were undefeated and had played to a 2-2 tie in the regular season.
Hilltop struck first when Priscilla Mejia made a great pass to Christopher Tapia who scored the first goal of the game. At the half, HILLTOP was up 3-1 but the Roadrunners fought back and the score was tied at 3-3 with only about 3 minutes left to play. Hilltop's goalie, Cameron Montiel made an amazing stop of an attempted goal with just over 2 minutes left and then Sebatian Zuniga score what turned out to be the winning goal with just over a minute remaining on the clock.
"Our team was happy with their performance. We were only missing one player and everyone who played gave it their all, said Coach Bill Ricketts. "As far as standout performances, our goal keeper Cameron Montiel really played exceptional and kept us in the game. Other players of note: Chris Tapia, Sebastian Zuniga, Krystina Beltran, Priscilla Mejia, Erick Montoy, Ryan Guerra, Andres Rodriguez, and Eduardo Lucero all had a stellar game."
Hilltop will play the Valley Vista Vikings, who are undefeated with no ties, in the Championship game at Mueller Charter School on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 6:15 pm. These two teams did not play during the regular season but it promises to be a great match up.
