HILLTOP WINS DISTRICT SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, the Hilltop Knights staged a dramatic comeback and won the District Co-ed Championship game against Valley Vista by the score of 6-2 on Thursday, May 17th . The game was played at Mueller Elementary on a cool, breezy evening and didn't start until about 6:30 p.m.
"Our team came in as the second ranked team and played like champions. I am proud of how this team played with intensity and did not let the other team's first goal rattle them, instead it fueled their motivation to win. Our team was extremely effective on offense, where they capitalized on many scoring drives. We also did an excellent job on defense, where Cameron, our goalie, really controlled the back field and worked well with our excellent defense, said coach Bill Ricketts.
Mr Ricketts added that there were so many outstanding players for this game and that the whole team performed well.
"Once again, Chris and Cameron fortified our defense. However, Adrian Hermosillo had an outstanding game on defense shutting down some tough offensive players from Valley Vista, said Ricketts.
After the game, the team was presented with a giant 1st place trophy and individual medals.
"This is my second season of coaching here at Hilltop. We had outstanding parent support. I am extremely grateful to the parents for having their students at practice every Tuesday, and getting them to all of the games on time. Not to mention, our parents our some of the best soccer fans in the district. I am proud of this group of players, as they really pulled it together this year and made an exceptional coed soccer team. I also appreciate how our players represented Hilltop at every game, with first class sportsmanship and created a supportive team culture. I am also so thrilled that our Hilltop staff made it out to a few games to support our team, it means the world to them to see their teachers and other staff there. This year was special too, because we had Coach Tony from STRETCH help out when he could, and Ms. Craven help with tryouts. Just a great season overall," concluded Ricketts.
